A long, fulfilled life came to an end on Tuesday morning. Yvonne Esther (Kopischke) Dittmer was 93 years old when she passed away peacefully in her sleep. She was an amazing woman that will long be remembered by her children Pamela McKuen (Arnie Shifrin) Mark Dittmer (Sue) Patricia Hayden (Chris); grandchildren Benjamin Hayden (Keri) Matthew Dittmer (Amber) Joshua (Alyssa Caldwell); and all 10 great grandchildren Leo, Melanie, Avery, Nora, Savannah, Emma, Jack, Riley, Tobias, and Harper.
Losing her husband, the Rev Lowell L. Dittmer (1974), early in life; Yvonne built herself a new career. She went to college and graduated with a degree in Business and Accounting all while working for the Army, Air Force Exchange Service in Charlestown, IN. Yvonne was an adventurous soul, filled with wanderlust and the need to travel and explore. A trait she passed on to both of her daughters. Her new career fed that need to explore as she was transferred to Clark Air Force Base in the Philippines, San Francisco, and eventually landed at headquarters in Dallas, TX.
In 1996, Yvonne decided she was done working and retired. She moved back to Indiana to be closer to her family and soon began her career as grandmother and later great-grandmother. She was a collector of small hinged porcelain boxes that became ice breaking favored topics of shy little children. She was a family historian with tales to captivate and intrigue you for hours. She was an amazing cross-stitch artist sharing her passion with anyone that wanted to learn or as keepsakes to those lucky enough to receive her masterpieces.
Yvonne was a shining example of a strong independent woman. A true wise matriarch. She was never afraid to speak her opinion. She was one in a million and she will be dearly missed. A memorial service will be held at St. Augustine's Episcopal Church in Danville, IN at 11:00 am on Wednesday, October 9th, 2024. Burial of her ashes will be in the St. Paul UCC Cemetery, Plato, Minnesota.
In addition to flowers, memorials and gifts may be sent, in Yvonne's honor, to charities of your choosing
