Memorial services for Steve, 62, of Clayton who passed away at Hendricks Regional Health Hospital in Danville on Wednesday will be held 4:00 pm Saturday, August 14, 2021 at the DECATUR TWSP. CHURCH of CHRIST, located at 7704 Mooresville Road, West Newton, IN. A cremation of his remains will be scheduled to take place. The wearing of masks are recommended, but optional. Those wishing to send flowers, please have your floral arrangements sent to the church.
Steve was born in Indianapolis to the late Edward J. and Dorothy (Shumate) Smith. He graduated from Mooresville High School with the class of 1977. Steve married Candice Lewis June 16, 1978. Not only a minister preaching the gospel since 1980, Steve was the genealogist in the Indiana Room of the Danville Public Library. He was a member and minister of the Shelbyville, IN. Church of Christ, and a member of the Avon Optimist Club, Danville Rotary Club, the Buick GS Club of Indiana, the Danville Museum Board, and the Mooresville High School Alumni Association. Steve was a disabled American veteran, having served in the U.S. Air Force.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years Candice, daughters, Rachel (Kevin) Rosenbaum of Lafayette, Cori (Adam) Fuller of Alexandria, KY., sons, Adam (Erica) Smith of Burton, OH., Caleb Smith of Lexington, KY., 12 grandchildren, Josiah, Lydia, and Hannah Fuller, Ava, Emilie, and Anna Smith, Naomi, Clara, Isaac, Hadassah, Henry, and Eleanor Rosenbaum, sister, Vicki (Steve) Wainscott of Decatur. IN., and a brother, Mark Smith of Indianapolis.
