Sandra S. "Sonn" Mitchell

April 7, 1938 — August 22, 2022

Sandra S. “Sonn” Mitchell, 84, of Danville passed away at her home, surrounded by her loving family, on August 22, 2022.  A Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, August 25, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. in the NEW WINCHESTER CEMETERY, New Winchester, IN.  In lieu of flowers please offer your donations to your local library or local school in Sonn’s memory.  As well, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association online at https://act.alz.org/donate or at 225 N. Sandra (Moody) Mitchell was born in Pleasantville, Indiana to the late James H. and Burl (Wellington) Moody of Pleasantville, Indiana.  She graduated from Pleasantville High School with the class of 1956.  November 5th of that same year, she married her lifelong best friend, John Mitchell, in Bucktown, IN.  In 1971 she graduated from IUPUI with a degree in Elementary Education, later receiving her Master’s in Education from DePauw University, Greencastle, IN.  Sonn taught in the Indianapolis Public School System for many years before retiring in 1999.  She was a member of the Indiana Teachers Association, The Order of the Eastern Star (Chapter 39, Danville), and the New Winchester Christian Church.  Sonn was a seamstress and avid quilter, holding memberships with several homemaking, sewing and gardening groups, as well, Sonn was an excellent cook.

Survivors include her loving husband of almost 66 years, John D. Mitchell, their children Tamela Mitchell of Danville, Johnna (Eric) Klakamp of Plainfield; grandchildren Jeremy (Sara) Fisher of Plainfield, Corey (Ashley) Caylor of Danville, and Cassandra (Kaylon) Linn of Danville; great grandchildren, Logan Caylor of Danville, Miles and Maisyn Linn of Danville, Dawson George and Bodhi Fisher of Plainfield; Siblings Betty (Moody) Townsley of Duggar and Darlene (Moody) Noel of Henryville.   Also missing her are Erika (Michael) Collins of Lizton, Hayden Lamb of Danville, and Quinton and Lydia Collins of Lizton.  The family would like to offer a special “thank you” to Aunt Carol Butler for her dedication to the family during Sonn’s illness.
