Richard Harold Washburn

Richard H. Washburn, 86, of Danville, IN passed away on Wednesday, November 9, 2022 at home in the arms of his dear wife. He was born in Indianapolis, IN on September 20, 1936, the only child of Harry Erwin and Leafy (Stiles) Washburn.  Dick grew up in Speedway, the family later moved to New Winchester, where he played high school basketball and graduated with the class of 1954.

Dick was a farmer of cattle and hay. He was the owner and operator of Washburn Insurance Company located on the Danville square for many years.  He was a member of the Plainfield Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses.  Dick enjoyed building and flying model airplanes and was a member of the Blacksheep Squadron R/C Modelers Club in Danville. He will be remembered as a friendly man who always had a story or two to tell.

Dick is survived by his loving wife, Joan Washburn; children Bryan (Michelle) Washburn of Demotte, Brenda (Jon) Pierson of Bainbridge, Brad (Pam) Washburn of Danville, Pamela (Ron) Dunaway of Danville, Cheryl (Mike) Freeman of Plainfield and Sheila Stevenson of Plainfield; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at the Plainfield Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses located at 4566 Moon Road, Plainfield IN 46168 on Saturday November 19th. Visitation will begin at 3pm, with a memorial talk at 4pm. All are welcome to attend. Arrangements have been entrusted to Weaver & Randolph Funeral Home.
