Richard Alan "Dick" Hemingway

A memorial service for RICHARD ALAN "DICK" HEMINGWAY, 86, of Greencastle, formerly of Danville and Avon, will be held at 11 am Sat., Jan. 27, 2018 at St. Augustine Episcopal Church in Danville with military honors. Family and friends will be received 1 hour prior to the service. Burial of Dick's cremains will take place in the Danville South Cemetery with a private ceremony at a later date.

Dick was born in Enid, OK., a son of William and Frances (Anning) Hemingway. He was a 1949 graduate of Enid High School and attended 2 years at IUPUI in Indianapolis. Dick came to Indiana in 1959 from Enid, OK. He had been an air traffic controller at Weir Cook Airport in Indianapolis for 13 years, a quality control administrator at Diamond Chain in Indianapolis, and returned to work for the federal government as a quality/logistic specialist at the Crane Naval Weapons Support Center in Crane, IN., retiring in 1996. After retiring, Dick worked as a seasonal federal park ranger at Au Sable Lighthouse at Picture Rocks National Lakeshore on Lake Superior's Upper Peninsula. Dick was not only an active member of St. Augustine Episcopal Church in Danville, he also served as a member of the commission on ministries for the Episcopal Diocese of Indianapolis. His service went beyond his church. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, was a life member of the American Legion, and served as president pf the board of the Avon Volunteer Fire Dept., and was a life member of the American Society Quality Control.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Billie Lee (Webb) Hemingway, children, Patti (Mark) Henson - Plainfield, Paula (Rick) Batchelor - Bainbridge, grandchildren, Matt Henson, Cody (Destinee) Batchelor, R.J. Batchelor, brothers, William Hemingway - Zanesville, OH., James (Holly) Hemingway - Bayfield, WI., and his adopted family of Rev. Dennis and Mary Kay Latta and families. Dick was preceded in death by a son, Darrell Hemingway, a daughter, Pamela Hemingway, and a grandson, Blake Batchelor.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given to St. Augustine Episcopal Church Lift Fund.
