Funeral services for PAUL STEWART SHAERER,JR., will be held at 7:30 pm Thurs., Jan 3, 2019 at WEAVER & RANDOLPH FUNERAL HOME DANVILLE with visitation 6:30 pm until the time of service. Burial will take place at 11:00 am (cst) Fri., Jan. 4, 2019 in the Danville,IL. Veterans National Cemetery with full military honors.
Paul was born in Clayton, NJ. to the late Paul S. and Ethel (Misskelly) Shaerer, Sr. He graduated from Clayton (NJ) High School and received his BS and Masters Degrees in Education from Glassboro New Jersey State Teachers College. Paul married Jean W. Watson Oct. 1, 1949 in Glassboro, NJ. He taught school for several years prior to becoming an elementary school principal in Collingswood, NJ. Paul was active in his church, enjoying being a song leader and choir director, as well playing golf. He was an active member of the Ocala, FL. and Collingswood, NJ. Kiwanis Clubs where he was elected Lt. Governor of Kiwanis International.
Paul enlisted in the U.S. Navy after high school. He served his country during WWII aboard the USS Nevada seeing action in the Normandy Invasion on D Day, and the battles of Iwo Jima and Okinawa in the Pacific Theatre.
Paul is survived by his wife of 69 years, Jean, children, Gregory Shaerer of McDonnough, GA., Donna (Ron) McDugle of Plainfield, grandchildren, Jonathan (Amy) Tripple of Downers Grove, IL., David (Amy) Tripple of Brownsburg, Lauren Shaerer of McDonnough, GA., great grandchildren, Annie, Mark, Maggie, Liam, Silas, Colm, and Declan Tripple, and a sister-in-law, Alice Shaerer of Ocala, FL.
