Mary Alice, 94, of Avon, passed away at home Fri. with her family by her side. A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 am Wed., Nov. 18, 2020 at St. Susanna Catholic Church located at 1210 E. Main St. in Plainfield, with visitation from 10:00 am until time of mass. The wearing of masks and social distancing will be observed. Entombment will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Indianapolis.
She was born in North Salem to the late William Dewey and LuLu Ann (Jones) Stevens. Mary Alice married Joseph Richard Leon Schmitt Aug. 28, 1949, he preceded her in death Aug. 3, 1997. She later received her high school diploma from George Washington High School in Indianapolis with the class of 1969. Mary Alice had worked in the customer service department at Eli Lilly for 25 years, retiring in 1985. She has been a member of Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Danville since 1959. She was also a member of the former Women's Auxillary of the New Winchester VFW Post.
Survivors include her daughter, Catherine "Cathy" (Craig) Pitts, son, David Schmitt, all of Avon, daughter-in-law, Jan Schmitt of Danville, 9 grandchildren, 12 Great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren. 2 sons, Joseph Richard and Lawrence Robert Schmitt have preceded her in death.
