Dave Mitchell

September 21, 1955 — November 27, 2024

Clayton

Dave Mitchell, 69, of Clayton, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, November 27, 2024 in Greencastle, IN. He was born in Indianapolis, IN on September 21, 1955, the son of Mary (Magill) Hedgespeth and the late Homer Mitchell. In addition to his father, Dave is predeceased by his wife, Kandi Mitchell, the love of his life, and his brother, Christopher Mitchell.

Dave graduated from Cascade High School with the class of 1973. After graduation he served his country in the United States Army separating as an E5 Warrant Officer. He enjoyed the military and was proud to have participated in the post-Vietnam effort to bring soldiers home.

Dave had a knack for looking at something and thinking, “Huh, I think I want to do that.” And so he did. His interests were vast and artistic, he enjoyed tending to plants, particularly cacti and Bonzi’s. He was a woodworker, making framed mirrors for family members. His claim to fame was the “Deputy-Dog” crafted for the Putt-putt Mini Golf course in Avon. He dabbled in leather work, making bookmarks, and even made some stained glass. He was a son, brother, husband, father, uncle, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be dearly missed for so many reasons, a few that come to mind - for being quite particular about which flannel he wanted to wear and for his damn-good chicken noodles.

Dave is survived by his mother, Mary Hedgespeth; brothers, Bryan (Judy) Mitchell and Justin (Terri) Mitchell; sister, Yvonne Mitchell; children, Dave (Jennifer) Mitchell, Stephanie (Marcello Wright) Mitchell; grandchildren, Skyler, Arianna “AJ”, Jahzara “JJ”, Marissa “Papa's Girl”, Rayden, Cheyenne, Sierra, Sean and Elizabeth, Yaz, Ameen and Ameer; 5 great-grandchildren; and best friend since Basic Training, Tom (Denise) Maule. Also missing Dave are many nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Services will be private.  Memorial contributions may be made in Dave's name to the HVAFofIndiana.org supporting homeless veterans, "No hero should ever be homeless."
