Midge, 79, of Danville, passed away last Saturday morning at home with her loving family by her side. In accordance with her request, a private graveside service will take place in St. Augustine Episcopal Church Memorial Gardens.
Midge was born in Pittsburgh, PA. to the late Rev. Arthur and Ella (Lawton) Gard. She received a BA degree from St. Mary of the Woods College in Terre Haute, and her Masters degree from Indiana University. Midge had served as the Associate Deputy for Ecumenical and Interfaith Relations for the Episcopal Church Center in New York City. She married John Phillips Roof June 18, 1966 in Tiskilwa, IL. She and John moved to Danville in 1966 where John became Rector of St. Augustine Episcopal Church until 2009. John preceded her in death March 17, 2013. Midge was a member of St. Augustine Episcopal Church, where she served as a former Sunday School Superintendent. Midge recognized the natural beauty surrounding the setting at St. Augustine. She enjoyed maintaining the grounds to ensure that peaceful beauty could be enjoyed by all who came to worship and visit.
Survivors include her loving children, John P. (Stacie) Roof, Jr. of Danville, Margaret Stone of Monroe, WA., Joshua Roof of Danville, grandchildren, Peyton, Jake, Megan, David Roof, and Kelsey Szabo, and a sister, Beth Salimbeni of Albuequerque, NM. Midge was also preceded in death by a brother, Paul Gard.
