Lewis James Collier

March 2, 1923 — June 3, 2020

Lewis, 97, of Danville, passed away Wednesday evening at Avon Healthcare. Due to the COVID-19 VIRUS situation, a private graveside service will be held Monday, June 8, 2020 at Clayton Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest next to his wife of 60 years, Wilma.

Lewis was born in Bedford, Indiana to the late John Sherman and Mary (Hamilton) Collier. He married Wilma Fern Gilstrap Mar. 6, 1948. She preceded him in death Mar. 26, 2008. Lewis was a construction mechanic in the bridge building industry, as well as having worked at Ditch Witch in Indianapolis (Bridgeport). He was a member of the Belleville Church of Christ, the Mooresville, IN. American Legion Post #103, and served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII.

Survivors include his children, Linda Lou Collier of Greencastle, Charles Lewis (Debra) Collier of Bainbridge, Jerry Lynn Collier of North Salem, Cathy Elaine Earles of Mooresville, daughter-in-law, Rachel Collier of Danville, 13 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, 7 great great grandchildren, and a brother, Frank Collier of Jeffersonville, IN. Lewis was also preceded in death by a son, James Edward Collier, a grandson, and three sisters.
