Lawrence M. "Larry" Gillespie

October 27, 1940 — September 23, 2020

Larry, 79, of Danville, passed away at his home Wednesday evening. A PRIVATE visitation will be held at WEAVER & RANDOLPH FUNERAL HOME DANVILLE Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2020 followed by an invitation for friends to join in the committal service at 2:30 PM at the MAUSOLEUM in DANVILLE SOUTH CEMETERY, where Larry will be placed to rest.

Larry was born in Indianapolis to the late Harold Robert and Anna Christin (Edwards) Gillespie. He attended Broad Ripple High School in Indianapolis. Larry married Linda Schenck July 17, 1964. He had been a truck driver for Signal Delivery in Indianapolis for 15 years. Also, for Wonder Bread 15 years before retiring the "first" time. Larry also drove a school bus for the Danville Community School Corp. 11 years where the kids voted him their "favorite" bus driver. He had been a member of the Brightwood Methodist Church in Indianapolis. Larry was a 30 year member of Teamsters Local #135, Sons of the American Legion Speedway Post, and served on the honor guard with the Danville American Legion Post #118.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Linda, sons, Michael (Cheryl) Gillespie and Larry (Debbie) Gillespie, all of Danville, 9 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, a brother, Harold R. Gillespie of Indianapolis, and a sister, Jerri Rita Carter of Bradenton, FL. Larry was preceded in death by 2 sisters.
