Karen Lee Allen, 72, of Hazelwood passed away in the early morning of Tuesday, October 15, 2024, while in the care of IU West Hospital. She was born in Martinsville on May 2, 1952, to Don and Patsy Allen. She grew up living in Hazelwood and was a 1970 graduate of Cascade High School. After high school she attended Purdue, graduating in 1974 with an Education Degree. Karen’s career was mainly in Marketing/Market Research. This provided her the opportunity working in several different states including Ohio, Colorado, Florida, Alabama, Georgia and Massachusetts. She spent 30 years in Boston where she met her wonderful friend, Steve Greenfield. They enjoyed attending Red Sox games and boating. Karen also enjoyed traveling with friends and spending the winter months in Florida. Karen returned to live in Hazelwood 8 years ago. She was active in the Hazelwood community and was a member of the Center Valley Cemetery Association where she recently helped organize “Wreaths Across America” program held at the Center Valley Cemetery.
Karen was a wonderful aunt to her nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. She provided great support by attending their activities and sporting events. “Aunt Karen” meant so much to all the nieces and nephews they always looked forward to spending time with her.
Karen was preceded in death by her father, Donald W. Allen, and grandparents Horace and Flossie Allen and Kathleen Hall.
She is survived by her mother, Patsy Ann Allen (Hall), brothers Steve (Diane) Allen, Don Allen, Jr, and Jerry (Cathy) Allen. She had 4 nieces Christina (Phil) Ward, Sabrina (Adam) Fischer, Dara Allen (Robert Brown) and Jenna Batsche and one nephew Scot (Stefanie) Allen. She also had 6 Great-nieces Sydney Ward, Alemitu Fischer, Chloe Batsche, Jillian Batsche, Nora Batsche and Carmen Allen and 4 Great-nephews (Wes Fischer, Calvin Fischer, Carter Ward and Levi Batsche)
Graveside services will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, October 19th at the Center Vally Cemetery.
