Judith A. Matthews

Judith A. Matthews, 70, of Avon passed away on January 16, 2023, at Hendricks Regional Hospital.  She was born in East Chicago, Ind. on October 26, 1952, a daughter of the late Arthur and Amy (Puskas) Sherry.  She graduated from Hammond High School in the class of 1970, and made her career as an insurance agent, first with American States Insurance Co., and finally with Conseco Insurance Co., retiring after 30 years of service.  Judith remained active and involved with people and was voted President of Residents at Brownsburg Meadows, where she was also a resident.  She enjoyed sports on TV, the Colts and Cubs were two of her favorite teams to watch.

Judith is survived by two sons, Jeff (Stacie) Matthews of Clayton, Ind., and Jay (Erica) Matthews of Sheridan, Ind.; grandchildren, Allie, Brooke, Avery, Parker, Ethan, and Halie, and 5 great-grandchildren; her older brother, Edward Sherry of Valparaiso, Ind., sister, Linda (Tom) Farris also of Valparaiso. In addition to her parents, Judith is preceded in death by her husband, Jack Matthews, on December 30, 2016.
