John D. Mitchell

John D. Mitchell, 84, of Danville passed away at his home, surrounded by his family, on Friday, October 21, 2022.  A Graveside Service will be held on Tuesday, October 25, 2022, at 11:00 AM in the NEW WINCHESTER CEMETERY, New Winchester, IN.  In lieu of flowers please offer your donations to Cascade High School F.F.A., 6565 S. John David Mitchell was born in Sullivan County Indiana to the late Roy and Chloa (Rooksberry) Mitchell of Pleasantville, Indiana. He graduated from Pleasantville High School with the class of 1956.  November 5th of that same year, he married his lifelong best friend, Sandra "Sonn" Moody Mitchell. She preceded him in death, in August 2022.

John worked for Firestone in Indianapolis as their Service Manager and later retired from the Daum Overnight trucking company.  He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #69 in Belleville, a 32nd Degree Shriner in Indianapolis, and a member of the New Winchester Christian Church.

John is survived by his daughters, Tamela Mitchell of Danville, and Johnna (Eric) Klakamp of Plainfield; grandchildren, Jeremy (Sara) Fisher of Plainfield, Corey (Ashley) Caylor of Danville, Cassandra (Kaylon) Linn of Danville; great-grandchildren, Dawson George and Bodhi Fisher of Plainfield, Logan Caylor of Danville, Miles and Maisyn Linn also of Danville; siblings, Dorothy Mitchell Bruce of Terre Haute, Roy, Jr. “Booner” (Jeannie) Mitchell of Linton, Carol Mitchell Butler of Linton and sister-in-law Mary Mitchell of Eminence.  Also missing him is Erika (Michael) Collins of Lizton and Hayden Lamb of Danville, Quinton and Lydia Collins of Lizton.  The family would like to express their gratitude toward John’s sister, Carol Butler, for her tireless dedication.

In addition to his parents, John is preceded in death by 8 siblings- Virgil Mitchell, Everett Mitchell, Anna Marie Mitchell Earle, William Mitchell, Doris Mitchell Suttles, Larry Mitchell, Judy Mitchell, and Robert Mitchell.
