Janet Sue Curry

January 8, 1944 — January 6, 2024

Danville

Janet “Jan” Sue Curry was born on January 8, 1944, to Roy T. and Florence Brewer, on a

farm in rural Jackson County, near Vallonia, Indiana. On the farm she learned the values of hard

work and love of family. Life on the farm was not always easy, but she treasured the memories

of her early life. As a child she would have great adventures riding bikes with her friends to get

a soda at “Muttown” a local store. Farm life also instilled in Janet a lifelong dislike of chickens.

Janet married Robert “Bob” Eugene Curry on November 20, 1966. The couple was

blessed with more than 57 years of marriage, two daughters, one business, and four

grandchildren. Jan was a dog lover and she and Bob had several great pups throughout their

marriage.

Jan learned not only about hard work growing up, but she developed a deep love of

learning and she placed a high value on education. Jan attended school at Vallonia and

graduated in 1961. Her classmates at Vallonia High School, Class of 1961 created a special bond

that was a blessing throughout her life. Jan went on to attend the University of Indianapolis, at

that time Indiana Central University, graduating in 1975 with a degree in Business

Administration. Jan put this degree to good work when she and Bob decided to open an

engineering firm in 1978. Jan was Bob’s right hand in the family business, Curry & Associates,

where they worked together for 45 years. Jan was the lifeblood of the company and cared

greatly for the employees and clients.

Jan shared her love of education and encouraged her daughters, Lori and Lynn, to

pursue their dreams, wherever they might lie. This encouragement led the girls to earn no less

than 6 degrees, combined. Lynn is an attorney and Lori is an engineer. Jan was an incredible

mother, wife and friend to all. Jan encouraged and loved her daughters in every way. She

treasured her grandchildren and loved their precious hugs and times together.

Janet’s faith in Jesus was the foundation of her life. Her faith journey began as a child at

Driftwood Christian Church near Vallonia, where she was active in youth ministries, was

baptized and later married to Robert Curry, her best friend and love of her life. Jan was a

member of Avon Christian Church for many years and has been blessed by her church family at

Bartlett Chappel for the last 30+ years. Jan and Bob also attended Mt. Zion Methodist Church

in Medora when they were spending time at Strawberry Ridge. Janet was thankful for the

many wonderful friends the Lord brought into her life.

Janet loved life and lived it to the fullest. She cherished her family and friends, and

spending time together. She loved being with family and traveling together. She had the gift of

hospitality and always made you welcome. She loved her family and loved hosting holiday

gatherings and cookouts, bringing together family and friends. These events often included

playing Euchre, a life-long love of hers that started on her grandfather’s knee as a toddler.

Jan was a sports enthusiast and loved watching Purdue and Butler basketball with her

husband. She loved to read, and passed that love to her daughters, who often talked about

their fictional friends together. Her love of reading led her to serve at the Washington

Township Library, where she was active in Friends of the Library, and served on the Board of

Directors for several years.

Janet was preceded in death by her mother (Florence), father (Roy T.) and brother

(Jack). She is survived by her loving husband Bob, who was her rock of support through life,

and especially through this last battle with cancer. Daughters Lynn (John) Barrett, Lori

(Michael) Young, grandchildren Darian, Andrew, Henry and Elizabeth. Along with much loved

nieces and nephews.
