James Woody Weatherman

James Woody Weatherman, 81, of Clayton, IN, passed away at home, unexpectedly, on Tuesday, June 27, 2023.  Son of Harold and Ena (Vandevoir) Weatherman.  Woody was born July 26, 1941, in Clinton, IN.  He grew up on and then stayed on the family farm near Clayton, IN.  He was a 1959 graduate of Amo High School and was married to his high school sweetheart Judy Herrin of Coatesville in the fall of 1961.

Woody loved the farm and always considered himself a farmer.  He also retired from Link Belt bearing manufacturer on Rockville Road in 2002 after nearly 40 years of service.  He made time for many hobbies including hunting, earning his pilot’s license, flying RC aircraft, and maybe most importantly, fishing. He loved to fish with Judy. They traveled to Canada many summers to fish and were a regular fixture at ‘Cataract Lake’ fishing for crappie.  In addition, Woody was an avid woodworker, especially in the winter, and has toys, canes, and furniture from his shop scattered around the country.  Depending on when you knew him, he might have been the guy with the lavish Christmas display or the one who threw the big Halloween barn party.

Woody loved God, his family, and the farm.  He also loved many friends and was first in line to help with anything whenever he could.  He is survived by his wife Judy Weatherman of Clayton, their son Shannon & daughter-in-law Maggie Weatherman, their daughter Sharril Reed & son-in-law Josh Brothers, all of Clayton.  He was blessed with grandchildren Bradley, Brock, Jessica, and Justine, great-grandchildren Lilly, Owen, Charlie, and Kara, as well as many extended family, friends, and loved ones.,

The family will receive friends on Monday, July 3, 2023, from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. at Clayton Christian Church, 5110 SR-39, Clayton, IN 46118.  A funeral service will begin at 5:00 p.m. with burial to follow in Clayton Cemetery.  Online condolences may be offered at www.heltonharrisfuneralhomes.com.
