James A. "Jim" Barker

James A. "Jim" Barker, 68, of Hazelwood, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, August 10, 2022.  The family will receive friends at the HAZELWOOD CHRISTIAN CHURCH, located at 9947 S. CR 0, Clayton, IN, from 3:00 pm until 6:00 pm on Sunday, August 14, 2022.  The funeral service will take place at the church on Monday, August 15, 2022 at 10:30 am, burial will follow in Center Valley Cemetery, Clayton, In.  In lieu of flowers, please offer memorial contributions to the Hazelwood Christian Church.

Jim was born in Indianapolis on December 13, 1953 to the late James J. and Rose Lee (Bevington) Barker.  He graduated from Cascade High School with the class of 1972.  On October 26, 1973 he married his best friend, Rita (Heavin) Barker.  Jim completed a 4-year Machine Tool Technology (Tool and Die) Program through Ivy Tech, then went on to work for Allison Transmission.  He was an exceptional craftsman, and was the owner and operator of, Carriage House Woodworking, in Plainfield, Ind., where he specialized in remodeling, kitchen cabinets and counter installations.  Jim was a longtime, active member of Hazelwood Christian Church, where he was recently the current Chairman of the Board of Elders.  Jim was a motorcycle enthusiast, he enjoyed working in his vegetable garden, and absolutely adored his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Jim is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Rita Barker, two children, Eric Barker, Heather (Mike) Milhon all of Coatesville, IN; three grandchildren, Alexis (Colten) Phelps of Coatesville, IN, Riley Barker of Indianapolis, and Dakota Gaston of Coatesville, IN; two great grandchildren, Kaydence and Jasper Phelps; brother, Ryan (Mary) Barker of Mooresville, IN, and sister, Bonita (Glen) Brill of Clayton, IN.  In addition to his parents, Jim is predeceased by a grandson, Tevin Rosales.
