Elvin Ray Cassity, 79, went to be with the Lord on February 3, 2024, while surrounded by his family. He was born on March 16, 1944, the son of Everett and Virginia McIntyre Cassity. He was a lifelong resident of New Winchester, Indiana, and a member of the New Winchester Christian Church since birth. He graduated from New Winchester High School as part of the Class of 1962. While working at the Danville Dog n Suds, he met Kathleen “Kathy” Davisson. They were married on December 22, 1965, at Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Danville, Indiana. He spent two years in the Army serving at Fort Knox, Kentucky and Fort Hood, Texas. Elvin Ray worked at Automotive Products and Equipment Service in Indianapolis before becoming the Hendricks County Courthouse Superindent for 20 years. He retired in 2009. He was the Marion Township Trustee/Assessor for over 38 years.
Elvin Ray was a man of faith, family, friends, food, flowers, and fun. He took great pride in being a Christian, going to church, and enjoyed listening to Southern Gospel music. He deeply cared for his family and friends. He was a great dad and grandpa. He always tried to lead by example, help others as often as he could, and knew the value of hard work. He lived to cook for everyone, and everyone enjoyed what he cooked. He loved working with his flowers in his yard. He had a great sense of humor and an amazing laugh. He enjoyed family trips, going out to eat, gatherings with others, card games, and just being with his wife, kids, grandkids, great-grandkids, siblings, and friends.
Elvin Ray is survived by his wife of 58 years, Kathy, daughter Colleen Cassity and grandson Benjamin Cassity, daughter Kelly Steinway (Jeremy), grandson Jacob Steinway, and great-grandchildren Greason, Raelynn, and Chevy Steinway, daughter Holly Konarski (Tim Leach) and grandson Tyler Konarski, son Lonnie Ray Cassity (Regina Sturgeon) and grandchildren Jordan Ray Cassity (Maddie Kirby), Braiden Cassity, Taylor Sturgeon, Morgan Sturgeon, and Mason Griffin, brother Alden Cassity (Erin), sister Marlene Newby (Rick - deceased), brothers-in-law Paul Davisson (Jan) and Tom Davisson (Debbie), sisters-in-law Sue Teany (Bob - deceased) and Mary Babbs (Jeff), and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Visitation will be on Thursday, February 8th from 4-8 p.m. at Helton & Harris Funeral Home, Danville. A funeral service will be held at Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Danville on Friday, February 9th at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in the New Winchester Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society for tongue cancer research or Riley Hospital for Children.
