Dorothy “Jean” Simpson, 88, of Danville, IN passed away in the early hours of Friday, August 23, 2024. She was born in Burlinson, Tennessee on August 20, 1936 and was a daughter of the late, James Alfred and Luna (Meyer) Maxwell. In addition to her parents, Jean is predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Milburn Simpson and two sons, Jim and Jeff Simpson.
She and Milburn were married, August 22, 1953. Jean loved being a wife and a mother. As a homemaker, she loved to cook-her delicious chicken and noodles were a household favorite. Her garden flourished with beautiful flowers and fresh vegetables; notably, tomatoes and green beans, to which Jean would get busy canning. In a quiet moment she would sit and crochet intricate and beautiful doilies for friends and family. Jean was very family oriented; they were her greatest gifts and passion. She was a member of the West Bridge Church family, and loved to go for walks and talks with her friends. Jean will be dearly missed by so many, for all of the love she shared.
Jean is survived by her daughter, Jan (Kevin) McGuffey of Noblesville; 3 grandchildren, Stephanie (Damon) Nelson, Brad (Brianna) Jones, and Lauren (Scott) Thomas; 8 great grandchildren, and many extended family members.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m - 12 p.m. on Wednesday, August 28 at the West Bridge Church. A funeral service will begin at 12 p.m. with burial to follow in Danville South Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jean's name to the West Bridge Church, 1521 S. County Road 75 W. Danville, IN 46122.
