David L. Appleby, Jr

David L. Appleby, Jr., 61, of Clayton, passed away on September 21, 2022.  He was born in Indianapolis on February 19, 1961, the son of David L. Appleby and Sonja (Donnals) Scotten.  David was a graduate of Cascade High School with the class of 1979.  Following graduation he married his best friend, Laura (Crowe) Appleby on September 28, 1979 in the Hazelwood Christian Church.

David worked 34 years with the Hendricks County Highway Department.  David spent the majority of his time with his family and will always be remembered as an avid sports fan.  He enjoyed watching the Colts, IU basketball and Notre Dame football.

David is survived by his wife of 43 years, Laura Appleby; their children, Tony (Sarah) Appleby of Hazelwood, Chris (Ronee) Appleby of Hazelwood, Amanda (Patrick) Summers of Paris, IL; 9 grandchildren, Christa (Seth) Metheringham, Evan, Damien, Dominic, Isabelle, Eric, Adler and Egan Appleby and Finley Summers; his mother, Sonja and step-father Richard Scotten, step-mother, Sue Appleby; sister, Theresa Kraus; half-sisters, Angie Appleby, Kearie Sheahan, Heather Honeycutt, Hollie Lone and Richelle Scotten-Bennett.  David is preceded in death by his father, David Appleby and brother, Mark Appleby.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 1, 2022 from 10:00am until the time of service at 1:00pm at the Hazelwood Christian Church, Hazelwood, Indiana. Burial will follow in Center Valley Cemetery, Clayton, IN.  In lieu or in addition to flowers, memorial contributions may be made in David’s name to Riley Children’s Hospital.
