Carl, 89, of Avon, formerly of Danville, passed away Monday evening at the Independence Village of Avon, (formerly the Hearth at Prestwick) with his family by his side. Services will be held 1:00 pm Saturday, July 17, 2021 at WEAVER & RANDOLPH FUNERAL HOME DANVILLE with visitation from 11:00 am until the time of service. Burial will take place following the service in NEW MAYSVILLE (PUTNAM COUNTY) CEMETERY. The wearing of masks are recommended, but are optional.
Carl was born in London, Kentucky to the late Walter and Maggie (Brock) Martin. Growing-up in London, Ky., he attended Bush High School. Later, moving to Bainbridge, In., Carl married Freeda G. Steward July 12, 1952. Their moves included Mt. Comfort and Spencer, Indiana, finally settling in Danville for the past 20+ years. Carl owned and operated Carl Martin Excavating Company for 50+ years. He was a member of Northview Christian Church in Danville. Carl was a former member of the Spencer (In.) Lions Club as well as the Mens Pool League in Mission, Tx. His love of "bird dogs" found him being a member of the Bird Dog Club of Amo. Carl's claim to fame was raising and training the 1971 Bird Dog of the Year; "Chief". He also holds the distinct honor being the current "worlds record holder" for antique buggy horse racing since 1982 with his wonderful horse, "Lucy".
Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Freeda, who experienced her loss on their wedding anniversary date. Their children James (Ada) Martin of Danville, Brenda (Gary) Davis of Mitchell, In., several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Carl was one of (7) seven children. Also surviving are a large extended family.
The family has requested that contributions be given to the Alzheimers Association in memory of Carl.
